Dunsmuir Hardware

The traditional hardware store of Dunsmuir - California's historic railroad town. Founded by Dunsmuir's first mayor - Alexander Levy - in 1894 and continuing today as a full service TRUE VALUE hardware store. This blog is simply intended to be a running commentary on operating a century old small town hardware store. Also please check our our website at www.dunsmuirhardware.com

Weather rules

So much for the theory about March. With about ten inches of fresh snow on the ground it's hard to believe that spring is almost here. Snow has been falling steadily since before daylight this morning and hasn't let up. The freeway is closed, streets are almost impassable and there is no break in sight according to the tv weather. It's hard to guess what will happen on a day like this. There will be some business in snow shovels and ordinary hardware things but enough to justify paying two people to staff the store? Probably not, but my deep rooted belief in being consistent tells me to be open and available. If the power doesn't go out (which it has been known to do on days like this) then we'll tough it out until 4:00, which is our closing time on Sunday.
